仙山之祖昆嵛山是全真教的发祥地，自然景观雄伟神奇，名胜古迹掩隐山林，道教文化源远流长，具有深厚的文化底蕴，名声享誉中外。养马岛素有“东方夏威夷”之美称，昔日为秦始皇养马宝地，岛上风光秀丽，气候宜人，是省级旅游度假区。南山北海，孕育了古老的全真文化和山海文化，形成了山载万物，海纳百川的人文精神。采仙山之精华，吸大海之灵气，烟台市牟平山海文化研究会应运而生，经烟台市牟平区民政局批准依法成立，为社会团体法人，业务主管单位为烟台市牟平区文化局。

烟台牟平山海文化研究会的宗旨: 遵守国家法律，遵守社会公德，秉承传统文化，弘扬民族精神，研究山海文化，宣传人文精神，开展文化活动，为构建和谐社会服务。

烟台牟平山海文化研究会的业务范围：组织民间文化研究爱好者，立足山海特色文化，研究、宣传、挖掘传统文化价值，拓展特色文化的服务功能。以昆嵛山和养马岛的海上自然景观及人文景观为依托，对山海文化进行挖掘整理，研究探讨；以开展书画展览、武术交流等文体活动为平台，推介山海文化；将山海文化同旅游文化和企业文化相结合，扩大本地旅游资源和优秀企业的知名度；充分利用自身优势，以开展各种文体活动为载体，全面打造优秀的社会文化传播交流平台，为发展经济和繁荣文化事业服务。
