美丽的养马岛

养马岛旅游度假区，地处烟台东30公里，牟平区城北9公里的黄海之中，总面积13。82平方公里，辖8个行政村，居民7000多人。
　　据记

载，公元前219年，秦始皇东巡途经此地，见岛上水草茂盛，群马奔腾，视为宝地，便指令在此养马，专供皇家御用。养马岛因此得名。岛内东侧另有小岛，状若巨象饮水，故亦名象岛。
　　岛上丘陵起伏，草木葱茏，山光海色，秀丽如画，海岛呈东北西南走向，地势南缓北峭，岛前海面宽阔，风平浪静，岛后群礁嶙峋，惊涛拍岸；东端碧水金沙，优良浴场。西端水深浪小，天然良港。岛上气候宜人，冬无严寒，夏无酷暑，年平均气温11.8℃，素有“东方夏威夷”之美称。岛四周盛产海参、扇贝、鲍鱼、对虾、牡蛎、天鹅蛋等海产品，久负盛名。
　　岛上海、陆、空交通方便，环岛前路、环岛后路横贯全岛东西，通海路与烟威公路、滨海路相接，距烟台火车站、港口30公里，距烟台机场22公里，处于大连、青岛、烟台、威海四个沿海开放城市的交叉点上。岛西端建有万吨级泊位码头，乘船可通往广州、深圳、上海、大连等沿海各大城市。
　　1984年，养马岛被列为山东省重点旅游开发区，1991年又被国家定为84个旅游景点之一。1995年1 月被山东省政府正式批准为省级旅游度假区。多年来，养马岛度假区立足本地实际，坚持以招商引资为突破口，推动了旅游业的快速发展。目前岛上建有各类宾馆、休养中心40多座，天马广场、赛马场、海滨浴场、海上世界、御笔苑等大中型综合娱乐景区点15处，形成了以海滨娱乐、度假休养为主，辅以观光浏览秦汉文化的综合性旅游度假胜地，每年吸引着几十万人次的中外游客来岛观光、旅游。
